Traditional Medicine and Herbs of Africa
Written for the general public, Traditional Medicine and Herbs of Africa seeks to spread knowledge about the African traditional ways of healing, which attract increased attention due to the lack of access to western medicine, as well as due to the fact that the many herbs which are used by African healers may hold key to development of modern medicines. The goal of the book is to show the role traditional medicine plays in various regions of Africa and show examples of widely used herbs in each region. The book then summarizes and analyzes the scientific evidence regarding the efficacy and safety of these plants and to show which of these plants could be a potential source for investigational drugs, which may lead to new, science-based treatments. This book was written by both students interested in this subject and practicing physicians. It is a work of love. Our team hopes that you will enjoy the book, delight in learning how people of Africa practice their traditional medicine, and in discovering the potential of African herbs.
